Commissions

Why Commission a Portrait?

A portrait is a meaningful gift of art that conveys gratitude and affection . Every paint-ing is completed with great attention to detail making sure you get not only the best likeness of the subject, but a wonderful painting your family will treasure forever. I use high quality archival materials to ensure that your painting will last many lifetimes. When you are ready to make an appointment to have a painting commissioned I will be honored to work with you.

Helpful Information

Portrait Size

Traditional portraits are 2/3 life-size to life-size. Most of my portraits are 16"x20". However, the size needs to suit the subject. A portrait of a Norwich Terrier will be smaller than that of a Labrador. Clients can request a portrait size.

How Long Does It Take?

Each portrait is different depending on the size, number or subjects and background. Wait list times can vary depending on work load. An approximate completion date will be given at time of ordering. Most head and shoulder portraits take 6-8 weeks to complete. Please contact me if you have a special date and I will try to accommodate your request. Holiday portrait arrangements should be made as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

A year in advance is not too soon to commission a portrait for a holiday gift. Gift certificates are available and can be used for the entire amount of a portrait or a part of the cost. It's often times better to give a gift certificate and allow the recipient to be involved in the planning of a portrait.

Will I See the Portrait Before It's Finished?

I prefer to work from my reference material (your photos and mine). The work will be finished to my satisfaction before we meet for delivery. If you are not satisfied, I can make minor changes to your piece if necessary.

Note: I am a perfectionist and will do my very best work for you to ensure you are pleased.

What Material Will the Portrait Be On?

Pastel paintings are done on high quality, acid-free sanded and textured paper. Pastel portraits need to be famed behind glass to protect them.

What Exactly Are "Pastels"?

Pastels are the purest form of color/pigment with the least amount of binder (gel) holding them together. They are vibrant in color and soft. Pastels are lightfast meaning they will not fade. They are wonderful for portraits.
